Celebrating fifteen years since its founding in 1991, WebCore Technologies Inc. has grown into an agile company creating
and manufacturing innovative core materials used to produce composite sandwich panels for demanding applications in wind,
transportation, marine, industrial, infrastructure, and defense markets.
Beginning originally with the concept to develop a low cost, high strength core material for laminating structural
sandwich panels for the refrigerated building industry, Steve Day founded WebCore in order to commercialize his concept
into a production process with market ready products. Steve's ideas centered on Fiber Reinforced Core (FRC) technology,
that involves combining closed cell foam and fiberglass reinforcement into a composite core material that offers improved
structural and economic performance over traditional materials. The trademark name TYCOR® represents the family of
products that incorporate the FRC technology developed and patented by WebCore.
Initial applications of WebCore's first generation fiber reinforced cores went into large roof structures, providing high
shear strength, lightweight composite solution in a corrosive paper mill environment. As the FRC technology grew and the
TYCOR product was further refined, dramatic improvements and new versions of TYCOR core were developed for composite bridge
decks and rail cars, where large loads and dynamic environments require a very high strength composite solution. The
company has protected its technology and has been issued four patents in the United States and one in Europe. Other patents
are pending in North America, Europe, and Asia. Through innovation and experience focused on meeting market needs, TYCOR
core has evolved today into a highly engineered core material with outstanding design flexibility and processing advantages.
Numerous private and public stakeholders have been involved in WebCore's progress and success. The U.S. Air Force and
Navy awarded WebCore numerous contracts under the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology
Transfer programs to explore new applications using innovative TYCOR core designs. These programs produced an impressive
array of composite products: airfield matting panels, missile fuselage, jet engine containment case, aircraft door,
transportable shelters, shipping containers, and bridge decks. The Ohio Department of Development and NASA Glenn Research
Center are also strong supporters of TYCOR core as an advanced material and platform technology in the composite industry.
Rooted in the culture of entrepreneurial and innovative drive, WebCore's team of dedicated and talented staff are prepared
to meet the challenges and opportunities of today's marketplace with confidence and dedication as we create an exciting
future for WebCore and its customers.
