Increasingly, designers of composite structures are being asked to offer more than low weight and high stiffness.
Composite sandwich structures can also have requirements for fire resistance, heat transfer, corrosion, sound
attenuation, and impact tolerance. Specialized applications may need UV, EMI, or biochemical shielding. Often
times these are requirements to displace existing non-composite structural materials. Other times these
requirements are coming because a customer wishes to save weight and cost by eliminating a non-structural material
while keeping the function of these materials preserved in the system. In some cases, such requests are viewed as
a "wish list" from the customer without a real chance of success; WebCore can address these challenges
by combining constituent materials with specific advantages.
Optimizable TYCOR® materials can reduce the complexity of the product design since separate structures for each of
the requirements is not necessary. Integration of novel materials into TYCOR preforms can provide solutions to
specialized applications while still allowing for single step consolidation. The performing and consolidation
processes are generally compatible with the core, reinforcement, and coatings/films designed for specific use.
The following programs on the left are examples of what WebCore can do for you.
